Shopify Wholesale (B2B) Reviews
Understand your wholesale operation before investing in Shopify B2B.
Most B2B Commerce businesses don’t contact me because they need Shopify. They get in touch because wholesale has gradually become more complicated than it should be.
Separate retail and wholesale websites. Third-party wholesale apps. Manual pricing. Email orders. Sales teams processing administration rather than developing customer relationships.
My Shopify Wholesale (B2B) Reviews are designed to step back from the technology and understand how your wholesale business should operate before deciding how it should be built. Whether you’re considering Shopify’s native B2B functionality, replacing an existing wholesale website or moving away from third-party wholesale apps, the objective is the same: to create a simpler, more scalable operation.
Why have a Wholesale Review?
Unlike a traditional website audit, a Wholesale Review isn’t focused on pages, buttons or layouts.
It’s about understanding how your wholesale operation works as a whole.
By the time most businesses contact me, they’re already considering Shopify because something isn’t working as well as it once did
Perhaps a wholesale app has become limiting, maintaining separate retail and trade websites is creating unnecessary work, or internal processes have evolved to the point where technology is now slowing the business down.
Rather than immediately recommending Shopify, we’ll begin by understanding the commercial challenges you’re trying to solve.
What we’ll review
Every wholesale business reaches this point for a different reason. Some have outgrown a third-party wholesale app, whilst others are maintaining separate retail and trade websites that have gradually become difficult to manage. Some are processing more orders than ever before but are finding that the operational effort required to support that growth is increasing just as quickly.
Rather than beginning with Shopify, I begin with your business.
We’ll look at how your wholesale operation works today, from the way customers place orders and how pricing is managed, through to payment terms, stock management and the role your sales team plays in supporting key accounts.
I’ll also review the technology underpinning the business, including your existing ecommerce platform, integrations, inventory management and any third-party systems that have become part of your day-to-day operation.
Just as importantly, we’ll discuss where the business is heading. A wholesale platform should support the next five years of growth, not simply solve today’s frustrations. That means understanding your commercial ambitions, future operational requirements and whether Shopify’s native B2B functionality genuinely supports the direction you want the business to take.
By the end of the review, we’ll have answered the questions that matter most before a single line of development begins.

Why work with me?
I don’t approach wholesale projects as a Shopify developer looking for another build.
I approach them as someone trying to understand how the business makes money.
Over the last twenty-plus years I’ve worked with founder-led brands, specialist retailers and premium ecommerce businesses where growth has created complexity. In many cases the challenge wasn’t the website. It was the collection of systems, processes and workarounds that had gradually developed around it.
Sometimes Shopify is the answer.
Occasionally it isn’t.
My role is to help you understand the difference before you invest.

Frequently Asked Questions
Shopify uses the term “B2B” to describe its native wholesale functionality. In practice, the two are often used interchangeably. Throughout this website I use the term Shopify Wholesale because it’s the language most founders naturally use when talking about selling to trade customers, whilst Shopify B2B refers to the platform features that make wholesale selling possible.
Not necessarily. One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding Shopify B2B is that Shopify Plus is the only option for selling wholesale. That was once largely true, but Shopify has significantly expanded its native B2B functionality, making many wholesale features available on lower-tier plans.
For many growing businesses, this means it’s now possible to offer a professional wholesale experience without immediately investing in Shopify Plus.
Depending on your plan, Shopify’s native B2B functionality can include features such as:
Company profiles
Customer-specific pricing catalogues
Net payment terms
Wholesale storefronts
Workflow automation with Shopify Flow
That doesn’t mean Shopify Plus has become redundant. Businesses with more complex wholesale operations, larger customer bases or advanced operational requirements may still benefit from the additional functionality available on Shopify Plus.
Rather than recommending the most expensive plan, I prefer to understand how your wholesale business operates first. In many cases, the standard Shopify plans are perfectly capable of supporting wholesale. Where Shopify Plus genuinely offers commercial value, I’ll explain why and help you decide whether the additional investment is justified.
For the latest comparison of B2B features available on each Shopify plan, it’s always worth referring to Shopify’s own documentation, as these features continue to evolve.
In many cases, yes.
One of the most common conversations I have is with businesses running separate retail and wholesale websites that have gradually become difficult to maintain. Products need updating twice, customer accounts are managed separately, pricing becomes inconsistent and introducing new functionality often means making the same changes across multiple systems.
For many founder-led businesses, Shopify’s native B2B functionality makes it possible to bring wholesale and retail together on a single platform whilst still giving trade customers their own pricing, payment terms, product catalogues and ordering experience.
That doesn’t mean every business should consolidate. Some organisations have commercial, operational or technical reasons for keeping wholesale separate, particularly where branding, customer journeys or integrations differ significantly between retail and trade.
Before recommending either approach, I look at how your wholesale business operates today, where the current frustrations lie and whether bringing everything together would genuinely simplify the business. The objective isn’t to reduce the number of websites you manage. It’s to create a wholesale operation that’s easier for both your customers and your team to use.
No. Although Shopify is the platform I specialise in, my recommendations are never driven by technology alone. Every Wholesale Review begins by understanding how your business operates, the challenges you’re trying to solve and your long-term commercial objectives. If I believe another platform or approach is better suited to your business, I’ll tell you.
Yes. Many clients choose to continue working with me after their Wholesale Review, allowing the strategy to flow naturally into design, development and implementation.
Because the review has already established the commercial direction of the project, the implementation phase is typically more focused and avoids many of the assumptions that cause wholesale projects to become expensive or unnecessarily complex.
In most cases, yes.
Whether you’re moving from WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce or another platform, I can help migrate products, customers and content whilst reviewing how your wholesale operation should be structured on Shopify.
A migration is also an opportunity to simplify the business rather than recreating old problems on a new platform.
Often, yes. Many growing brands started their wholesale journey using third-party Shopify apps because they solved an immediate problem. As the business grows, those apps can become limiting or introduce unnecessary complexity.
Part of the Wholesale Review is understanding whether Shopify’s native B2B functionality can replace those apps, reduce ongoing costs and simplify the way your business operates.
Absolutely.
The Wholesale Review is independent of any implementation project, so I’m happy to work alongside your existing developers, marketing team or digital agency if that’s the best approach for your business.
Some clients engage me purely for strategic advice, whilst others ask me to deliver the implementation. I’m comfortable with either approach.
Every wholesale business has different requirements, so I like to have a short introductory conversation before preparing a proposal.
That allows me to understand the size of your business, your current systems and the questions you’re hoping to answer. I’ll then provide a fixed-price proposal outlining exactly what’s included, giving you complete clarity before we begin.
Most reviews are completed within one to two weeks, depending on the complexity of your business and the number of systems involved.
The process typically includes an initial discovery session, independent research, a commercial assessment and a final recommendation with a practical roadmap for moving forward.
Start by understanding the problem rather than choosing the platform.
By the time businesses contact me, they’ve often already decided they need Shopify. Sometimes they’re right, but just as often the real issue lies elsewhere. Separate websites, duplicated administration, ageing wholesale apps and manual processes are all symptoms rather than root causes.
A Wholesale Review helps identify what’s genuinely holding the business back before deciding how technology can support the next stage of growth.
Every wholesale business is different. If you’re unsure whether Shopify B2B is the right fit or you’d simply like an independent opinion before investing in development, get in touch and I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.
